JR'S "Quick Hits": What's Willcox, Arizona known for? It is the home of the Rex Allen Museum...for those of you under 40, he was a 50's era movie and TV star...museum looks to be all of about 250 sq. feet! Also home of the Marty Robbins Museum and Gift Shop (which we are going to hit later this morning)...Marty's home state is Arizona. Well folks, that's about it...definitely not a fine dining town..Apple Farm, where we ate last night and is rated as the best vittles in the area, has left me with a bad case of gas and possibly some sort of food poisning...oh well, probably would have been better to haul out the old BBQ. Top picture is of the mysterious "Thing"...a string of billboards teasing you to pull off the road to buy an ice cream, get gas, buy a souvenir and then see the incredible "Thing" which is nothing more than an shriveled up mummy of some sort of desert creature (not a Chupacabra), all for the incredible price of $20 bucks!

  1. Dad- I wiki'd Rex Allen, out of curiosity, to learn a little about him. Here are some of the highlights:

    1.)Full name: Rex Alvie Allen
2.) Best known for his musical single "Don't go near the Indians"
2.) Was the voice behind Purina Dog Chow commercials as well as the narrator for the movie Charlotte's Web. (I always wondered who that was)
3.) He had three wives: Virginia, Bonnie and Doris.
4.)Rex died two weeks before his 79th Birthday in Tucson, Arizona, of a massive coronary, causing him to collapse in the driveway of his home. He suffered additional injuries when his caretaker accidentally ran over him in the driveway. (Mental note... check for Dad behind car before leaving parent's home)

Good stuff, Dad! I can totally see why they had a museum dedicated to his memory. -Dani
